Charmaine Hack

VP, External Relations, Enrolment and Partnerships

Charmaine Hack comes to Centennial College from Ryerson University, where she has served as the University Registrar since 2013.

Charmaine is a former President of the Association of Registrars of the Universities and Colleges of Canada (ARUCC) and is currently Chair of ARUCC’s National Network Project. At Ryerson, she currently serves on the university’s Senate and the Academic Standards, Academic Governance and Policy Committee, and Awards and Ceremonials Committees.

Charmaine’s national leadership scope, and exposure to numerous models within colleges and universities, has provided her with rich insights for how strategic enrolment management (SEM) ought to unfold in Transformation. As such, Charmaine aligns her relational practice to mobilize intersectional strengths and synergies across all functional areas of the institution, from data analytics and corporate planning through to marketing and community relations. Notably, Charmaine has demonstrated the power of partnerships and collaboration with academic and student success teams – because the work of SEM is, ultimately, for students.

A strong advocate of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), both personally and professionally, Charmaine was appointed to the inaugural Ryerson University Aboriginal Education Council and has initiated a division-wide Anti-Black Racism (ABR) learning and reflection initiative focusing on critical consciousness and transformative systemic change. She is currently leading the creation of a University Equity Admissions Framework and a new University Equity Admissions and Recruitment Advisory Group to develop meaningful and relational outreach and an admissions framework to facilitate warm invitations and welcomes for learners from equity-deserving communities.

Charmaine has been described by her teams as honest, approachable and kind; a thoughtful and inclusive leader who is empathetic, compassionate, and an active listener. A seasoned professional, Charmaine leverages sound strategy, data and analytics, and experiential insights from colleagues to help inform decisions and navigate through change.

Charmaine has a Master’s degree in higher education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto and a BA in English from the University of Toronto.
