Artist Statement
Indigenous male youth are 5x more likely to die by suicide than their white peers.
Indigenous males between the ages of 15 - 29 are most at risk for suicide, with the highest rates of suicide of any group in Canada.

Mary Ann Maiangowi-Manatch is an emerging Odawa (Wiikwemkoong) & Algonquin (Mitchikanibikok Inik) artist practicing within the Williams Treaty on the land, specializing in birch bark work, and acrylic and oil paintings.
Mary Ann’s work focuses on healing and ancestral knowledge pulling from her life experiences to create culturally significant pieces that help discuss Indigenous issues as well as Indigenous pedagogy. She advocates for Land Based Learning initiatives and the reintroduction of Indigenous knowledge into education.
