The College Employer Council (CEC) and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) representing all 24 colleges Full-Time Support Staff (FTSS) have been in negotiations since June 17, 2025, with the contract expiring on August 31. On August 17, the membership voted in favour of a strike. Please note that to declare a strike is not a foregone conclusion that one will occur since specific conditions must first be met. In the interim, the parties continue to attempt to reach a collective agreement.
A strike is a labour disruption which can range from work-to-rule to rotating strikes to a partial or full walkout. We recognize the important work that full-time support staff provide to colleges and students and we certainly hope that the parties can reach a fair and timely agreement, thus avoiding a strike. However, with due diligence in mind, Centennial College is developing strike management and business continuity plans so that disruption to students and staff can be minimized in the event of a strike.
