It'll be Valentine's Day soon, and couples throughout the GTA will be making plans for a romantic day together. There are a few old standbys that we automatically think of when it comes to Valentine's Day dates: Romantic dinners, sappy movies, bed-and-breakfasts, and the like. There's practically an industry around it. And where there's an industry, there are hard-working people. Think of the people behind the most common plans, and how they got to where they are today, through a practical college education. You could follow in their footsteps and have a career that's literally romantic. Here are a few Valentine's Day traditions, and the people behind them.
The food
What's more traditionally Valentine's Day than a candlelight dinner? If you're taking a special someone out to a fancy restaurant for an elaborate dish, then the people preparing that meal likely took Culinary Skills in school. You could take it and become one of those gourmet professionals, and even craft your Valentine's meal.
Outside of dinner, the foods most associated with Valentine's Day are the sweeter things, like chocolate, cakes, and cookies. The people that create those treats went through Baking Skills programs, and the people running the show took Pastry Arts Management programs. Learning how to make them yourself will let you put your own spin on your tasty treats.
The locale
When couples plan to go away for Valentine's Day, one of the most frequent destinations is a fancy hotel, or bed and breakfast, run by graduates of a Hospitality - Hotel Operations Management program, or a Hotel, Resort and Restaurant Management program. Becoming one of these professionals puts you in charge of making people's romantic getaway dreams come true. Meanwhile, couples who have the time and money to get a bit farther away turn to graduates from Tourism - Travel Services Management programs to arrange more exotic getaways.
The movies
A more simple event for couples on Valentine's Day involves seeing a romantic movie. If you love sappy romances, you can help make them by learning Advanced Television and Film - Script to Screen or Television & Film - Business. And if you hate them, well, get into the business and make something better. Meanwhile, if you're interested in seeing a live show instead, you have veterans of Theatre Arts and Performance to thank.
The special events
Plenty of people have all sorts of ideas for unique Valentine's Day events. If it's something large and formal, they're turning to people with experience in Event Management and Special Event Planning. Joining the profession won't just make you the one creating Valentines events, but events for businesses and people all year 'round.
