Each year, in the summer, a new group of Centennial College students have their convocation and prepare to move out into the world. This year, we went and talked to the graduates before and after their ceremonies (and posted what they had to say on Centennial College’s Instagram stories). Here’s what the class of 2019 has to say about their time at Centennial College, and what future students can look forward to when then enroll:
What their favourite Centennial College moment was:
“My favourite moment was meeting new people, and the teachers were super cool, so it was a great experience for me. I have no regrets, and now I get to graduate, so that’s great for me!”
“My best college moment was when my program sent me to the Dominican Republic to do Community Development Work.”
“I had a lot of great moments, engaging and collaborating with other adult learners, so based on that, it’s been a really good experience. It’s great to see us all here, graduating, and all the excitement. It’s been a good journey.”
“My favourite moment from college was meeting my amazing friends that I’ve made so many memories with over the years that I’ve been here.”
“My best college moment is when I got selected to work at the City of Markham, and the hired me after work. So, Community Development all the way!”
“I just finished my postgrad, graduating from Sports Journalism, and my proudest moment was doing my Internship at TSN.”
“My proudest moment is being here with my Dad.”
Who they want to thank for their success:
“Shout out to all the nursing students out there who made it!”
“Hey, Mom and Dad, I just wanted to say thank you for all your support, and for encouraging me this entire way throughout college.”
“I just want to say thank you to my mom, who’s been my rock through this whole thing, and my friends, who bring me support.”
What they’re going to do after they graduate:
“My next step after graduation is to start the new job that I secured a week ago, so I’m excited about that, and then to just see where life takes me after that.”
“I have my job, so I’m going to do that, but today, I’m going to party!”
“What I’m going to do after graduation is work for a few years, but I’m still going to pursue another course, maybe hospitality. I’m going to go further, to see if I can get a degree.”
“In the future, I’d like to open my own franchise, my own restaurant.”
“I’m a Centennial graduate, and I invite all of you to study hard, and make sure you make connections.”
“Just come with an open mind, embrace every culture you can.”
“The advice I’d give to students is to prioritize their tasks, and a lot of time management really helps. Be consistent in what you do, have a goal, and work towards it.”
How they feel now that they’re graduating:
“Today’s my graduation, and I’m so excited. I’m going to enjoy it with my friends!”
“I’m so happy that I completed my graduation from Centennial, and it has been a good experience with Centennial and my friends.”
“After graduation, I’m going with my friends to celebrate convocation, and sharing video and photos with my friends and family.”
“I’m an international student from India, and I just wanted to say it has been a great experience learning at Centennial College. Very nice professors, faculty, and the Athletics and Wellness Centre. Everything is great here.”
