This page is designed for students in our four-year collaborative nursing degree program with Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University).

New Students: Please be advised that more detailed information about clinical placement will be given out on Orientation Day. You are required to meet certain medical and non-medical requirements in order to attend clinical placement which takes place during the second semester of your first year. These requirements will be provided to you upon acceptance within your Welcome Package. Your form includes a due date to submit your requirements. We strongly advise that you start the process of completing your requirements as soon as you have accepted the offer to the program.

Medical Requirements: Please take the Clinical Pre-Placement Health form to your doctor to have him or her complete.

Police Checks: Must be issued within six months of every placement start date. Ensure this is up-to-date prior to each placement semester. For a Fall (September) semester start date the VSS must be issued from March 1st onwards, for a Winter (Jan) placement start date the VSS must be issue from July 1st onwards and for a Summer placement the VSS must be issued from November 1st onwards.

Toronto Area Students (postal code starts typically with an "M"): The vulnerable sector police check can take up to 3-4 weeks or longer to process depending on findings and volume of applications. Please go to the link Toronto VSS Police Check and complete the online application process. Email Placement Requirements (placementrequirements@centennialcollege.ca) for the requested additional information that is required (e.g. Unique code, Clientele duties, etc.)

All other regions other than Toronto may view the Frequently Visited Police Regions document (#1) for steps to apply online to your region. Letters from the college may be required with your application. I have included the commonly requested region letters. Student will download the form, complete the fields, save to your computer, and submit with your application.

If you receive a letter from the police department indicating that you will be required to do fingerprinting, please do this as soon as you get the notification and also advise placementrequirements@centennialcollege.ca via email.

Students under 18 years of age: You cannot obtain a Vulnerable Sector Police check until you turn 18 years old. Please contact Synergy and notify them of your age. Synergy will have students sign a waiver, so you can be provided with a temporary exemption to attend placement. Synergy will notify Centennial College of your status, so we may update the placement site. You will need to submit a Vulnerable Sector Police Check to Synergy once you turn 18-years-old.

Standard First Aid: This certification is recommended but not mandatory.

CPR - HCP: Please ensure that you take the Health Care Provider Level or BLS level course. A blended option is acceptable; however, an online only course is not valid. There must be an in-class component.

Mask Fit Testing: Valid for two years and must be valid for the duration of each placement. You may complete your Mask fitting at Centennial College, Morningside campus throughout the year. All mask fit testing will be performed by a trained technician in our Health Studies Lab. Students can book their mask fit appointments through myCentennial by clicking on the “Student Services” tab and going to the “School of Community and Health Studies Book a Success Advisor", and then choosing the drop-down option “Mask Fit” MyCentennial. Ensure you complete the Mask Fit Questionnaire and bring it with you to your appointment: N95 Mask Fit Questionnaire. Upon arrival to your Mask Fit appointment at Morningside campus, ensure you present photo ID or your MyCard to security.

Returning Students (Students Going into Year 2): We strongly recommend that you renew your police check, CPR and update all other outstanding or expired documents in advance of your due date. You will submit any requirements that would be expiring to Synergy to clear for your next placement.
