Description | This theory and lab course introduces students to the theoretical and practical application of Biochemistry. It is specially designed for technology students enrolled in the biochemical programs and aims at preparing students for employment in some of the following areas: food, pharmaceutical and brewing industries as well as government and private laboratories. The theory focuses on the most important molecules found in living systems. Theory concepts are applied and explored by student pairs in the lab. Skills from Analytic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry will be developed in the preparation of soap, testing of food oils, identification of sugars, paper chromatography of amino acids, titration of amino acids and isolation of casein from milks |
