Description | This course will examine the historical move toward primary health care in Canada, health system reform and healthy public policy as well as evolution of community nursing. Theoretical frameworks based on primary health care will be examined as well as the core principles of social support, coping, self-care as public participation mechanisms. The epidemiological basis of community and public health services, including the role of the determinants of health will be examined. Examine the concepts of health, wellness and apply models of health promotion for culturally diverse communities and aggregates. Distinguish between home health nursing and public health nursing while discussing the nurse’s role as advocate, educator, counsellor, treatment practitioner, consultant, and member of the interdisciplinary health care team The nursing role in community development and capacity assessment will be discussed. Ethical issues related to community health and health promotion will be examined. |
