Description | Students will learn about integrated disability management programs; key concepts and practices related to managing disabilities in the workplace. Students will also learn about the relevant legislative requirements for managing disabilities in the workplace contain in both federal and provincial legislation, for managing disabilities in the workplace. These include the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Accessible Canada Act federally and the Ontario Workplace Safety Insurance Act, the Human Rights Code and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act provincially. Students will learn the basics of the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety (CSA-Z1003-13) in the Workplace to promote mental illness prevention and mental health in workplaces. Students will learn about theoretical and applied concepts related to disability management, return to work planning and ergonomics. They will learn how to assess and accommodate employees on the basis of different types of health conditions. They will learn about the role of various stakeholders in providing accommodation and supporting the return-to-work process. Finally, students will learn about the challenges of maintaining ethical, legal requirements while balancing real life demands of the workplace as it pertains to managing disabilities. |
