Description | This course will assist the practical nursing student in developing the skills necessary to perform precise calculations for the role of the nurse. Mathematic principles and formula will be applied to nursing practice including calculating safe dosages and quantities for medication and parenteral administration. Students will identify the essential parts of a medication order and recognize abbreviations and symbols common to nursing practice. Topics covered include: basic arithmetic operations with whole numbers, fractions and decimals, systems of measurement, ratio and proportion, percents, algebraic expressions and dimensional analysis. |
