Description | The learning that takes place in field practicum is the essence of the Early Childhood Education Program at Centennial College. Assigned to a preschool childcare setting and working under the direction of a qualified Early Childhood Educator, students will have the opportunity to experience first hand what they have been learning in the classroom. By taking risks, extending themselves and trying out new skills, students will learn from both their successes and their mistakes. While developing and trying out new skills, students will consolidate information learned in their academic classes and compare theory with the realities of working with young children and their families. Faculty supervisors, who will visit agencies at pre-arranged times, will observe students in action with the children, confirm strengths and needs, and offer suggestions to support their reflective practice. Final grades will be assigned based upon the competencies and grading system outlined in the field manual. Note: Minimum C grade. Pre-requisites: Semester 2 ECEP courses, COMM 160, Corequisite: ECEP238. |
