Description | This course consists of lab practice and clinical placement that will facilitate the application of knowledge and skills learned in the classroom and lab. Clinical placements will allow students the opportunity to apply awareness of the role of the PSW within the intra-professional and interprofessional teams working in long-term care and acute care settings. Students will have the opportunity to participate in various simulated community-related scenarios, which will prepare them for challenging situations that may arise. The concepts along with facility policies that will be explored include: feeding, mechanical lifts, caring for a dying client, mechanical lifts, wound care, oxygenation, and vital signs monitoring. Further development of observation skills and documentation methods will be applied to maintain client safety and quality of care. Self-reflection and evaluations will be developed to reinforce commitment to continuous quality improvement and continuing professional development. |
