Description | This course will provide students with the basic principles of what makes something "beautiful" through the exploration of the development of visual styles and art movements through history. Students will be exposed to examples of global art, architecture, fashion, performing arts, street art and media arts through slide shows, video and in-class illustrations. The Visual Aesthetics course will explore with students the effects of colour, proportion and form, visual weight, aesthetic emotion and the psychological effects of shadow and light. Students will have the opportunity to speak with a professional artist/designer who will be invited to present his/her work in class and discuss the difference between personal aesthetics and societal tastes and values, as well as, how visual artists can challenge social, political and cultural paradigms. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to identify the principles of visual aesthetics in order to employ them fully in whatever form of expression they choose to work. |
