Description | This course introduces the learner to technology of the modern wireless communication systems and their application to transmit voice, data and images. Transmitter and receiver equipment is analyzed through block diagrams and system implementation. Analog and digital modulation techniques and their spectral characteristics are compared. Topics on wave propagation and link calculation to satisfy the required performance are also covered. Most of the course time is dedicated to signal transmission and related radio-frequency (RF) concepts of signal-to-noise ratio, impedance matching, signal attenuation and reflection, interference, and frequency response. Transmission lines and antennae are investigated in detail. Theory classes are supplemented with industry-relevant lab experiments, so that students gain practical skills of RF measurement using 3GHz spectrum analyzer, return loss bridge, directional coupler and numerous RF accessories. |
