We're a mobile species, dependent on vehicles to keep the world turning. Because of that, we're always going to need people to service and run those vehicles, to teach us how to use them, and to make sure they don’t damage the planet, among other things. Whatever road a person goes down, a career in the transportation industry is valuable, lucrative and secure. Not only that, but it’s a big field, with a lot of different kinds of transportation jobs, letting you choose the kind of path you like best. Do you like cars? Motorcycles? Big rigs? Airplanes? Do you like to teach? Or go hands on? Whatever it is, odds are you can learn about it at Centennial College. And best of all, there’s easy, convenient, quick ways to do so. With our part-time Transportation programs and courses, you can focus in, and learn a single useful skill in a short span of time. And regardless of the course, the School of Transportation is Canada's largest transportation school, so you can be sure you're getting a top-quality skills-based education. Here’s some of the things you can be learning:
The small things matter
First up, we have something smaller than cars, but something that some people find much cooler: Motorcycles. Want to learn how to ride one? There’s a Motorcycle Rider Training course for that. Or better yet, you can learn how to fix one, in our Small Engines Repair course. Small engines power more than just bikes, as the course covers how to fix gas powered lawn care equipment. They have engines too, and need repairing just as often.
A classic car career
Of course, you could take a career path into the most commonly-used vehicle out there, automobiles. I always like to ask people, ‘when your car breaks down, who do you call?’ If you take the right automotive program or course, it could be you. At Centennial, we teach you the inner workings of a vehicle through theoretical and practical experience, whether you want to start your path to becoming an Automotive Service Technician with our Automotive Exam Pre-Certificate course, or start learning about the next generation of green vehicles in our Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Certification course, or figure out what that dent will cost you with our Damage Appraisal course.
Speaking of that, damage outside of a car is just as severe as damage inside one, which is why we also offer three courses around automotive paint, how to apply it, and how to remove dents in a way that will keep your paint intact. And you can even make sure other people get safely behind the wheel (while earning some extra scratch yourself), by becoming a certified driving instructor.
Take to the skies
If you want to help people go where you don't need roads, we also help you take to the skies with an Aviation course focused on the sheet metal that makes up airplanes, an essential job in the industry. We have real airplanes at our facility at Downsview Campus, with labs set up as if you're going to work, so when you do arrive on the job, you know your way around an aircraft.
No matter what road or airstream you choose to ride on, you'll be reaching the same destination: Becoming an expert in something few people know, letting you forge a career helping others with your skill. And thanks to our part-time offerings, you can do so in a way that’s just as fast as the vehicles you’ll be working with.
